Early Life
Giovanni da Verranzano was born in 1495 in Val de Greve Italy, which is south of Florence. Even despite this fact, he considered himself to be Florintine, as did everyone else. He was introduced into the adventure and exploration at an early age, traveling with his family (his mother and father: Piero Andrea di Bernardo da Verrazzano and Fiammette Capelli) to places like Egypt and Syria. Which were - at the time - almost impossible to get to, and quite mysterious. Around 1507, he began a maritime career. Although there are thorough writings of his explorations of America, there is still little known about his personal life.

What Inspired Him
Giovanni was inspired by the explorers that were going on voyages when he was a young boy. Like Christopher Columbus, him even more so because Columbus was Italian like himself. What also inspired him was his family trips to the exotic places. It made him curious about foreign places, and he wanted to look for what was out there. It made him want an adventure. Which is what he got, in the end.
